Dmytro Ivanovych Chyzhevsky (1894-1977)

Dmytro Ivanovych Chyzhevsky is a Ukrainian scholar with a world renown, a Slavist, a literary critic, a Ukrainianist, a source scholar, a bibliographer. He is also known as a historian of the philosophical thought of Ukraine. Indeed, he is the author of the first synthetic work on the history of philosophy on Ukrainian lands. It was for a long time that he determined and continues to determine the basic approaches to the study of the problems of the development of Ukrainian philosophy. The encyclopedias and the breadth of his knowledge struck contemporaries. Dmytro Ivanovych is rightfully one of the most prominent Ukrainian intellectuals of the 20th century. In the incomplete register of scientific works, which has about 1000 positions, more than 200 are devoted to Ukrainian studies studios. Among them are such books as «Philosophy in Ukraine» (1926, 1929), Essays on the history of philosophy in Ukraine (1931), «Philosophy of G.S. Skovoroda» (1934), «Ukrainian literary baroque» (1941- 1944), «The History of Ukrainian Literature» (1942, 1956, 1975 - in Ukrainian and English), and others like that. His pen also includes most articles (over 100) from ancient Ukrainian writing in the Encyclopedia of Ukrainian Studies.
